We have an engaging and full of fun preschool program designed specifically for the 2 years to 5 year child. We work with the child’s adventurous mobility, the emerging language, and rapidly-developing cognitive processes through sensorial learning materials. These materials are designed to develop pre-writing, mathematical, linguistic, and practical life skills.
We promote independence, empowerment and mastery of capabilities through the preschool environment consisting of child-sized furniture, sinks, bathrooms, bookshelves, and indoor and outdoor play areas. Children are encouraged to make safe choices in their work and play.
Activities are positioned around the room for children to choose independently. Each activity introduces a particular theme, skill, and value to the child’s development, for example concepts of sequence, form, shape, movement, and sound.
The child learns the oral language naturally from the environment. The work of the teacher is to expose the child with the equivalent forms of written language through the same general pattern of development. The Montessori child begins reading with experiences in practical life and sensorial education. These provide a phonetic basis for reading.
Sensorial Materials in the Montessori classroom are designed to sharpen the senses of the young child such as color, weight, shape, texture, size, sound or smell. Materials help children to distinguish, to categorize, and to relate new information with what they already know. Their intellect is trained to increase their perception of the world around them.
Mathematics introduce the concept of quantity and its symbols: the numbers 0 through 9. The child counts, compares and becomes familiar with the numbers as a decimal system. We include concrete experiences with the operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
A young child needs to develop muscles and coordinate movement. Our materials enable the child to conduct many practial life exercies to develop concentration, attention to details and learn good working habits.
